Thirty-two years ago, Sadhu Amar Bharati felt disenchanted and
disillusioned at the fighting and anger in the world around him. He
felt that it was time for him to do something about it. So he raised
his right hand. He has not lowered his hand even once since then, says
Sadhu Amar Bharati Urdhavaahu, and explains that it was imperative for
    world peace…

KARACHI: A group of seven senior journalists from India arrived in
Karachi on Monday to attend the 'Talking Peace' editors' conference,
being organised on April 6 and 7 at a local hotel under the banner of
Aman Ki Asha, a joint initiative of the Jang Group and The Times of
    India.
The conference raises a number of critical questions for Indo-Pak
journalists: can the media aid in defusing/raising tensions between
the two countries; can the editors agree on mutual terms of reference
or a code of ethics; can journalists be in agreement regarding the use
of terminology or other operational details that puts them on the same
page; and critically, over issues where editors agree to disagree…

LAHORE: Speakers at a seminar on 'Realities of Indo-Pak relations'
unanimously agreed that both the nations needed to resolve all
outstanding issues between them through dialogue, however their
approaches to the issues remained poles apart. The seminar was held
under the aegis of Focus Pakistan at the South Asia Free Media
    Association (SAFMA) auditorium…

NEW DELHI:… Even though Pakistan submitted a "non-paper" to India
during the foreign secretary talks in February, Pakistani foreign
minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi was quoted as telling TV interviewers on
Friday that it wasn't India stealing Pakistan's water but Pakistan was
wasting its water. "The total average canal supplies of Pakistan are
104 million acres/ft. And the water available at the farm gate is
    about 70 million acre/ft. Where does the 34 million acre/ft go? It's
not being stolen in India. It's being wasted in Pakistan," Qureshi is
reported to have said in an interview. In fact, in an interview on
March 16, Pakistan PM Yousuf Raza Gilani contradicted his own
government's contention that India's "water theft" was adversely
affecting its crops. "When I took over as prime minister, there was
shortage of wheat, Now there is a surplus. There is so much surplus
that we had to construct new storage for our strategic reserves," he
    said…

KOLKATA:…Now India and Bangladesh have taken a joint pledge to save
the fragile delta area from further damage…The Union Minister of
Environment and Forest, Jairam Ramesh, and his Bangladeshi
counterpart, Dr Hasan Mahmud, took the pledge at an international
workshop organised jointly by the NGOs of India and Bangladesh. Ramesh
said that nearly 60 per cent of the Sunderbans was in Bangladesh.
"Even our best efforts to conserve the fragile ecosystem would be
futile if we do not undertake a joint effort," says Ramesh…

NEW DELHI: The delegates from SAARC nations have recommended setting
up of a region wide Government Performance Management Network to share
experiences and emerging regional best practices on an ongoing
basis….The SAARC Workshop on Government Performance Management was
organized by India in response to a decision taken at the meeting of
Cabinet Secretaries from SAARC Countries held in November 2009. It is
a reflection of India's swift implementation of a sophisticated
Performance Monitoring and Evaluation System for Government
departments and the interest shown by the member countries from the
region towards an effective, efficient and transparent governance…
